Roundtable Session Explained

Objective

To give students the opportunity to meet the speakers while promoting networking with other students.

Logistics

• 12 roundtables will be organized and assigned the following speaker:

6. Daniel Galvao

7. Alberto Alves

8. Kathryn Schmitz

9. Antonio Di Meglio

10. Erika Rees-Punia

• Participating students will be assigned to their table.

• The roundtable session is divided into 4, 15-minute segments. Speakers will rotate among the tables at the end of each segment. Students should remain at their initial assigned table.

• During each block students will have the opportunity to ask questions and listen to the advice of speakers regarding their training and career paths.

• The event concludes once four rotations are complete.

Suggested Sample Questions

• What do you wish you had known before applying for your current position?

• What opportunities do you recommend students take advantage of during their training?

• Are there other skillsets you would recommend current fellows to learn/practice now that would make them more competitive applicants for a position in your field?

• Are there any fellowship or training programs offered in your department/company/agency that could benefit current students?

• What does a competitive applicant (e.g., postdoc) in your field resemble?

• Where do you see your career in 10 years?

• What do you like best/least about your current position?
