Maria-João Cardoso is the Head Breast Surgeon at the Champalimaud Foundation Breast Unit, in Lisbon Portugal and an Associate Professor at the University of Lisbon Faculty of Medicine. She is also co-coordinator of the Breast Research group at INESC Porto. Maria-João completed her undergraduate at the Porto Faculty of Medicine, in Portugal, and she obtained her PhD in Medicine also at the Faculty of Porto School of Medicine. She has dedicated her career to breast surgery.
Maria-João Cardoso is the Coordinator and Principal Investigator of the EU Horizon 2022 funded CINDERELLA Project [HORIZON-HLTH-2021-DISEASE-04-04. HORIZON-RIA. Proposal number 101057389]. She has published more than 110 papers on international journals, has an h index of 39 and has co-authored more than 200 full communications in major national and international scientific meetings. She is a member of the editorial board of The Breast and of The International Journal of Breast Cancer and a reviewer for several international scientific journals.
Maria-João Cardoso is the president of the Support Centre for Breast Cancer Patients, Mama Help (www.mamahelp.pt), and she is an active collaborator for several European patient advocacy training networks including EUROPA DONNA. She is a member of the board for the Portuguese Society of Senology, a member of the EUSOMA Executive Committee, and part of the faculty for the European Society for Oncology and the European Society for Medical Oncology.
