Champalimaud Foundation

Come and join us at the beautifully designed Champalimaud Foundation located in the historic riverside area of Belem in Lisbon, Portugal.

The D. Anna de Sommer Champalimaud and Dr. Carlos Montez Champalimaud Foundation was created by the will of António de Sommer Champalimaud and is primarily focused on advanced biomedical research and providing translational, interdisciplinary clinical care. The Foundation develops its research activity in the areas of neuroscience and cancer and the provision of clinical services of excellence. It also has an outreach programme to fight blindness.

The Champalimaud Foundation is also known for its unique architecture and harmony with the Tagus River. Charles Correa, the architect in charge of the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, believed that buildings must seek to express the true essence and culture of the places where they are located, always having in mind the building’s ultimate purpose in order to create the perfect symbiosis between function and form. More than an architect, he was a thinker of urban space.

Auditorium

The incredible location of the auditorium of the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, overlooking the Belém Tower, makes it a unique place to host events.

The striking architecture and location of the Auditorium of the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown make it one of the most attractive places in Portugal to host events. The large elliptical window with its view of the Tagus river and the Belém Tower greets those who enter it and stimulates ambition. Fully equipped and with a capacity of 400 seats, it offers excellent conditions for presentations, conferences, congresses, talks, courses, concerts and other artistic meetings.

This facility is especially aimed to support the professionals who work at the Foundation, but given its characteristics and versatility, it is also much in demand by other institutions, both national and international, who wish to hold successful events here.
